19z Petro-Chemicical Case Study

Throughout 2012 and the first quarter of 2013, Northern Digital developed and implemented a fully integrated Control SCADA System for the 19Z lease in the San Joaquin Valley. Our team of engineers worked closely with our client and several contractors to bring this project from the initial design meetings to fiber optics networking, panel design and fabrication, PLC and SCADA programming and Startup.
We believe that one of our strongest assets is not simply being another system integrator but being a complete Control System Engineering firm. This project allowed us opportunity to add value and insight to the project from our 25 years of experience in this specific field. The Oil gathering facility at 19Z included process controls for Separators, Low Pressure Gas Coolers, Emulsion Tanks, LACT Units, Flares, Waste Gas Injection compressors, and Production Wells. Each portion of the facility was integrated into the larger San Joaquin Valley SCADA Galaxy which required an intense focus on maintaining consistent and high standards for programming. Throughout this project we have looked for ways to improve and streamline our programming standards in order to ensure that each area exceeded our client’s expectations. We believe this was accomplished by engaging in thorough planning up front, both internal and with our client, then through weeks of internal testing that allowed opportunity for revisions to be completed.
Once programming was completed, we moved into field testing of instrumentation and control panels. Being onsite during this phase was critical to completing the final startup phase of the project in the most efficient way possible.
During startup, we were onsite to complete loop checks and commission each piece of process equipment and its associated instrumentation. Once the equipment had been started up we continued to work with Operations to maintain the integrity and efficacy of the control system including normal process controls as well as shutdown alarming.
